Music filled with colour

The music of a “colourful figure” from the avant-garde movement in early 20th century Paris will fill a Geelong church this weekend, according to its promoter.
The latest concert in the Music at the Basilica series would feature works by Erik Satie on the 150th anniversary of his birth, said Jane Bashiruddin.
Claude Debussy was also on the playlist, Bashiruddin said, with the evening’s performers to include Geelong poet Rosemary Blake, flautist Bighid Mantelli, pianist Sonoka Miyake and Frank De Rosso on the organ.
“Some of the highlights will be Satie’s Gymnopedie No1 on piano Debussy’s Afternoon of the Faun, arranged for flute and piano, and Debussy’s Girl With the Flaxen Hair, arranged for organ.
“A supper of cake and warmed mead will follow the concert.”
Bashiruddin said tickets would be available at the door, with students and children under 12 admitted free.
