Ford will stand down 1500 Geelong workers without pay at the end of today’s shift unless a local parts manufacturer can come up with a rescue package to put its staff back to work.
Breakwater component manufacturer Coghlan Russell Engineering collapsed last week leaving its workers $1.5 million out of pocket and throwing Ford’s production line into turmoil.
“If the situation isn’t resolved before (today) we will have no choice but to progressively stand down our employees without pay at the end of their Friday shift,” a Ford spokesperson said.
