Councils in $820m highway bid

Seventeen councils will join forces to demand an $820 million upgrade of the Princes Highway from Geelong to South Australia.
Geelong, Surf Coast and Colac Otway councils will join other municipalities in Western Victoria to Mount Gambier to formally launch their joint campaign today.
The councils will run joint campaign launches along the highway at Winchelsea, Allansford and Mount Gambier today.
The councils want the stretch of highway included in the Federal Government’s new AusLink Mk II funding program.
Highways classifying for AusLink funding must first satisfy the Commonwealth’s roads of national importance criteria.
The Princes Highway campaign has earmarked four separate stretches for improvement.
