Three rescued off St Leonards

THREE people were taken to hospital following an incident in Port Phillip Bay last night.

Water Police were called to a boat in distress off St Leonards boat ramp around 8.15pm.

With the assistance of the airwing, they located the boat circling out of control 500 metres off shore.

When officers boarded the vessel, they found two men and a woman unconscious on the boat.

The airwing flew paramedics to the scene and the trio was taken to hospital.

A 60-year-old man was airlifted to The Alfred while the two others were taken by road ambulance to Geelong Hospital.

The exact circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear but at this stage, it’s believed a fault may have occurred on the boat, injuring those on board.

A marine surveyor will examine the boat today.
