Enright a chance for Magpies

Geelong will give veteran defender Corey Enright up to the weekend to prove his fitness for the clash with Collingwood on Saturday night at the MCG.

Enright was subbed off in the third quarter against Brisbane after rolling his ankle, but coach Chris Scott said scans cleared him of any “serious” damage.

“Corey is a little bit sore, so we are some distance off making an assessment for this weekend right at the moment.

“Given he couldn’t come back on the field there is some doubt there but we probably won’t know until Thursday what his status is.

“We have an obligation to name him if he’s close and wait to the weekend to see how he pulls up.”

George Burbury has made a speedy recovered from a serious broken jaw, coming through a VFL comeback match last weekend.

Scott said Burbury had been able to maintain a full, though non-contact, training load.

“We just need to work out if we make him available for selection this week or next week, but it will be one of the two.”

NewS on Billy Smedts leg injury is not as good, with Scott confirming the bone bruising was “a bit more complicated than we’d hoped”.

“We and he need to be guided by his pain. He has had some pain that has prevented him getting back into full training. We are cautious in those sorts of situations.

“It’s certainly not a long term thing, we are confident he will be back soon.

“He’s missed a bit of footy now, so while I’d love to have him in our senior team, we’ll just be cautious about his return to AFL level.”

For replacements, Jackson Sheringham looks to be first in line, with Scott affirming the fact he travelled with the team to Brisbane increasing his chances.
