NightBus services ‘to continue’

Alex de Vos
A cheap bus from Geelong nightspots will continue ferrying local revellers home after City Hall announced plans this week to expand services.
A statement from City of Greater Geelong said it would continue operating the NightBus service in the early hours of Sundays and on special events “until further notice”.
The statement said the night buses had carried 2767 passengers since the beginning of a trial on October 31, with an average of 126 passengers a night.
The trial finished on Wednesday.
“Whether the service continues as a permanent initiative will depend on funding and sponsorship,” the statement said.
The service has operated without any incidents during the trial, with security staff and bus drivers happy about the behaviour of passengers.
“The behaviour of passengers throughout the period of the trial was excellent,” the City statement said.
The buses depart from Moorabool Street taxi rank, dropping off passengers in more than 20 suburbs and towns across Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast, including Torquay, Ocean Grove and Lara.
The NightBus operates Sunday mornings from 1.30am to 4am.
Fares are $5.
