GAC’s 2024 matinee program announced

Geelong Arts Centre (GAC) has announced its 2024 matinees program, the first full-year daytime entertainment program in GAC venues since 2019.

GAC’s Delightful Days and Matinees will feature six daytime shows through 2024, featuring some of Australia’s best performers in the newly-refurbished Playhouse Theatre.

Renowned Australian jazz singer Tamara Kuldin will kick off the program on February 14 with her show Dear Doris, a tribute to the late, great Doris Day.

Throughout the year audiences will get the chance to see the rock ‘n’ roll theatre of Simply Brill, Olivier Award nominee Bernadette Robinson’s The Songs of Judy Garland, the return of Aussie jazz favourites the Syncopators and Luke Alleva’s all-singing, all-dancing show The Dancin Man.

Much-loved entertainer Lucy Durack will wrap up the year’s program when she celebrates the festive season with A Merry Little Christmas on December 11.

GAC head of programming Penny McCabe said she was thrilled to announce such an array of top talent for Delightful Days and Matinees 2024.

“2023 has been such a big year, it’s just so nice now to be able to share this arts centre with everyone; it’s what we’ve been working towards these last couple of years,” Ms McCabe said.

“For me, what’s really important is that we have really high quality programming for our matinees, because that’s what those audiences deserve.

“I wanted to be able to have a bit of variation in the genres and periods we present over the year. So we’ve got jazz, we’ve got 50s and 60s rock ‘n’ roll, we’ve got dancing with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, and then Lucy Durack for a more contemporary kind of celebration.”
