Murder and mayhem in Drysdale

The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society is at it again, bringing their particular brand of mayhem to the stage in a hilarious celebration of community theatre.

Beginning this weekend, local community theatre group Theatre 3triple2 will present Murder Mystery at Checkmate Manor.

One of 10 stage plays by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jr, Murder Mystery features the fictitious Farndale drama society performing a whodunnit where everything that can go wrong, does.

The play within a play simultaneously pays homage to crime icons like Agatha Christie while having a good-natured laugh at the sometimes chaotic beast that is community theatre.

Director Cait Reynolds said the comedic murder mystery promised to be a fun experience for audiences of all ages.

“Set mishaps, sick cast members, understudies stepping into the limelight… it makes for a hilarious night out,” Ms Reynolds said.

“We’re really enjoying how our cast members perform in multiple character roles, because obviously they’re playing a character who then plays multiple characters.

“I think that’s something that is extremely difficult to master, and our crew and cast have done an exceptional job at being able to break that barrier.”

Featuring a cast composed of both veterans and relatively new actors, the five-show run will also include a performance by the understudies.
