Indy rock duo announce new album

On the back of their newly-announced upcoming album, Central Coast duo Winterbourne will bring their blend of harmonies, vintage rock and new age pop to Geelong in September as part of their Velvet, Honey & Wine tour.

Winterbourne made a return to the live arena earlier in 2023 after a lengthy touring hiatus, visiting capital cities around the nation in March and April to showcase singles Long Distance Runner and Forevermore, released in late 2022.

With the release of single Velvet, Honey & Wine in June and Do Nothing just this week, the indie rockers embarked on this latest tour in early August to regional areas up and down the east coast.

Lead singer and guitarist James Draper said while the band were always exploring new sounds, fans would recognise the core elements as being Winterbourne.

“I think it’s just natural that you are inspired more by different sounds (at different times),” Draper said.

“And particularly this new single that’s out this week, it’s certainly something new and refreshing and interesting to us.

“But it still makes sense that we made it. It’s full of harmonies and all the stuff we love, just kind of moulded in a new way.

“But it’s certainly different every night; Jordan’s playing a giant recorder, it’s been great fun.”

Guitarist and vocalist Jordan Brady said the duo made a point of changing things up at their live shows.

“I feel like people would get bored with – not necessarily, that’s probably a bit too self-deprecating – with us just playing the record,” Brady said.

“I think we would get bored with just playing the songs as they’re supposed to be. Making the live show a completely different experience to listening to one of our records is one of our strengths; it’s something we really enjoy doing.”

Winterbourne plays at the Barwon Club on Saturday, September 2.
