Youth space open in Inverleigh

The Inverleigh Active Youth Space is now open, giving young people an outdoor space to participate in physical and social activities.

The community-driven project transformed Inverleigh’s Yerram Yaluk Bun Play Space into an active recreation and community space, which officially opened on December 2.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Sarah Hayden said the $2.34 million project was a collaborative effort between council and the state government.

“Now the project is complete it’s an amazing recreation and play space for the young people of Inverleigh and surrounding towns,” she said.

The facility features new BMX tracks, two basketball half-courts with lighting and an upgraded skate park. Car parking, shelters, furniture, landscaping and path works also support the facility.

Member for Corangamite Libby Coker said she knew Inverleigh residents would appreciate the space for future generations.

“The new youth space is a game-changer for Inverleigh and I’m so proud to have played a role in supporting the community members who advocated tirelessly for this new precinct,” she said.

“This precinct is attracting young people from across the state which is an awesome outcome for the town, and it’s already becoming a hub for local students to hang out and stay active after school.”

The state government contributed $1.49 million from its Growing Suburbs Fund, and the federal government provided $700,000 to the project, with council contributing the remaining $150,000.
