City of Greater Geelong’s use of “shonky” private building surveyors has cheated ratepayers out of millions of dollars in rates revenue, according to a council source.
The source yesterday told the Independent the City had appointed an officer to investigate properties that had received building permits through private surveyors who had then failed to notify council when the works were complete.

More than 300 people gathered in Drysdale on Wednesday to farewell a 33-year-old Geelong man who died in Thailand earlier this month.
Dean McKeon’s family, friends and workmates packed Drysdale Community School Hall for a service of nearly two hours.

Commercial netting will finish in Corio Bay on 1 April 2018 in a surprise State Government move.
Government introduced legislation yesterday to phase out commercial netting in Port Phillip Bay by October 2022 but to close Corio Bay much earlier.
