The Deakin University engineering students’ T2 car went on display in Detroit, USA, as a Ford Global Challenge winner.

Geelong’s first directly elected mayoral experiment was an “abject failure”, several councillors have told the Independent.

They said confected controversy over council’s ward funding system was a legacy of the 10-month tenure of Keith Fagg, who as mayor was open to “outside influences” from business leaders and “unelected” organisations.

Geelong Miniature Railway (GMR) president Brian Gray has called on the council to not “shut the door” on the charitable initiative.

GMR is seeking a “peppercorn rental”, a site of 10 to 15 acres from the City of Greater Geelong with a favourable rental agreement.
