Upgrades for Goldsworthy Reserve

Corio’s Goldsworthy Reserve will close for upgrade works at the month’s end to make the community’s environment safer.

The works will be fully funded by the City of Greater Geelong council and will be conducted between September 30 and October 4.

Mayor Trent Sullivan said the work would include repairing and replacing the javelin run-ups, repairing broken areas, and removing vandalism on affected areas of the running track.

“The Corio Little Athletics Club and its members, as well as school kids across Geelong and the broader athletics community will have access to a facility that provides a safe and fit-for-purpose environment,” he said.

“It was imperative to commence the project at the end of September and by completing the works at this time it will also mean there is minimal impact to the remainder of the athletics season.”

A Track Condition Report was undertaken earlier this year to establish a schedule of works in conjunction with the Corio Little Athletics Club.

Active Spaces portfolio chair councillor Eddy Kontelj said council worked closely with the athletics club to identify a preferred date for the surfacing works.

He also said the works required dry and warm weather to be completed and that council would ensure minimal interruptions to the athletics season.

“The upgrades at Goldsworthy Reserve are necessary and exciting for the Greater Geelong athletics community,” he said.

“Because they are being undertaken at the end of September and start of October, the field will be in prime condition for the start of the season.”
