Hannah signs on for United

Geelong United has signed Hannah Hank for its inaugural WNBL season.

The Clemson University alum, who finished her college run with both 500-plus points and rebounds for the side, will join Geelong United fresh off a stint with the Brisbane Capitals in the NBL1 North competition.

“It’s definitely a really special feeling to be part of the inaugural team,” she said.

“I think the opportunity to set the tone for Geelong United is not only a responsibility, but something to for sure be excited about. The group that we’re pulling together is super keen to hit the ground running, and that along with what I’ve heard about the amazing community support in Geelong, I’m just really keen to get there and be a part of it.

“I really pride myself on being a great teammate, it’s something I learned a lot about in college, just making sure I’m someone that they know they can lean on and has their back in each moment.”

Hank sees her signing as somewhat of a full circle moment in her career, linking up once again with head coach Chris Lucas for the first time since she trained with the Adelaide Lightning before heading off to college.

“He really invested in my career and took an interest in me, watching me come through the ranks and develop and grow as a player,” she said.

Lucas has kept a keen eye on Hank’s continued growth through college and sees her as a handy signing.

“Hannah, from my point of view, ticks a lot of boxes,” he said.

“She’s had one year as a pro in Germany and I think her numbers have been very consistent. She’s been looking for the opportunity to have a crack at the WNBL, and given the opportunity I think she’ll play a terrific role for us.

“We only want players in the program that will work hard for both themselves and each other and she compliments all those values.”
