Victims’ stroke of luck

A GEELONG support group for stroke survivors is reaching out for new members.
Group president John Sheaf said the group offered emotional refuge to stroke survivors.
“If people need things done, we can help them,” he said.
“If they just want people to talk to, we can do that, too.”
Speaking from experience, Mr Shef said stroke had no easy route to recovery.
“Three months after you’ve had a stroke you sit down and think ‘what am I going to do for the rest of my life?’,” Mr Sheaf said.
The support group started at McKellar Centre soon after Mr Sheaf suffered a stroke about five years ago.
Members meet every second Tuesday of the month to listen to guest speakers.
National Stroke Week begins on September 18.
