Seniors festival events at Geelong libraries

With the month-long Victorian Seniors Festival in full swing, Geelong Regional Libraries (GRL) is hosting a range of activities and events across its network to engage seniors.

A state-wide festival for Victorians aged over 60, the Victorian Seniors Festival provides free and low-cost events activities throughout October each year, engaging every municipality across the state.

Already this month, GRL has hosted events on seniors’ rights, online safety, poem and play readings, employment advice, yoga, papercraft and scrapbooking, meditation and mindfulness and travel planning.

GRL chief executive Vanessa Schernickau said libraries were safe and welcoming spaces where people could come together and connect, encouraging seniors to check out GRL’s events this month.

“At Belmont Library you can attend an introduction to the photo and video digitisation station, where you can learn how to preserve precious family memories. We will soon expand this amazing service to other libraries thanks to the support of Kings Funerals.

“Seniors can brush up on digital skills by booking into our Building Digital Skills and Digital Literacy sessions, designed to empower people with the digital knowledge needed in today’s world.

“Or book a librarian for a one-on-one session where they will help you make the most of the library’s resources and services; these free sessions are available year-round.”
