Sustainable housing events through October

Sustainable House Day is back in Geelong for its 15th year, with a range of events over three weeks throughout October.

Sustainable House Day Geelong, presented by Geelong Sustainability in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong, showcases the area’s best sustainable homes and offers a series of seminars and workshops discussing different aspects of sustainable living.

The event opens this weekend with a seminar featuring keynote speaker Peter Maddison, host of Grand Designs Australia and ambassador for not-for-profit organisations including Architects Without Frontiers, the Beaumaris Modern Group and the Open House Melbourne program.

During the seminar, held this Saturday, October 7 at Deakin University’s Peter Thwaites lecture theatre, Mr Maddison will explore sustainable building design, from big picture principles to practical tips.

The free-to-attend Open Homes day on Sunday, October 15 is the centrepiece of the event, with eight exceptional homes across Geelong, Queenscliffe and the Surf Coast open to the public.

Workshops and information sessions are held throughout the month, culminating in a Q&A session on Thursday, October 26.

Geelong Sustainability chief executive Dan Cowdell said there was something for everyone in the Sustainable House Day Geelong program.

“We are thrilled to host Sustainable House Day once again for Geelong and surrounding areas, bringing together the community and experts in the field to promote sustainable living and design,” Mr Cowdell said.

“With a diverse range of events, including workshops and a Q&A session, we aim to empower attendees with the knowledge and inspiration they need to make sustainable choices in their own lives.”
