An “insulting” pay offer has forced Geelong police to threaten industrial action, according to their union.
Police Association assistant secretary Inspector Bruce McKenzie said the force wanted a pay rise that would “ensure communities such as Geelong receive the highest level of safety”.
The association had rejected a State Government offer of a 3.25 per cent increase, Insp McKenzie said.
The Government’s offer would leave Victorian police with pay packets an average $500 lighter than interstate colleagues, Insp McKenzie said.
He visited Geelong this week to discuss the pay issue with local police.
Insp McKenzie said a mass meeting in Melbourne next week would decide whether to launch industrial action.
