Jan Juc Telstra upgrades

Telstra customers will face temporary disruptions as upgrades occur on the mobile base station in Jan Juc as part of the 5G rollout.

Works on the station will start on Tuesday, June 13, to bring the area better 4G services and new 5G coverage.

Regional general manager for Telstra Steve Tinker said the upgrades to the site would impact mobile coverage that will vary each day, but they would try to minimise it as much as possible.

“We will be as quick as we can,” he said.

“We understand there is never a good time for work like this, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“We will have to turn some or all of the site off each day to perform the significant work needed to improve our mobile network in the Jan Juc area.

“Once it is all done, residents should notice an improvement in their service.”

From Tuesday, June 13, to Friday, June 16, there will be no 3G or 4G coverage during the day, with some mobile range restored at the end of each day.

Work on the 4G network will continue the following weekend, but the 3G network will still be available.

A full site shutdown will occur on Monday, June 19, and there will be no 3G or 4G coverage for most of the day.

Temporary disruptions will continue for the next two days due to network testing, with works expected to be completed on June 21.

Any Triple Zero calls from a Telstra mobile when the site is off-air will automatically be diverted to any working mobile network to connect with emergency services.
