Former Geelong bank teller Dale Gillham would have laughed if someone had told him five years ago he would one day feature on Business Review Weekly’s annual list of Australia’s top financial movers and shakers.
But the investment guru and bestselling writer managed to surprise himself earlier this month when he opened the magazine to find his company, Wealth Within, had made the BRW 100 Fastest Startups list.
The list recognises companies less than five years old and on a fasttrack to success.
“We all sort of looked back at the past four years and were extremely proud of what we had achieved,” Dale said.
While 45yearold Dale chose to keep the extent of his financial success close to his chest, he revealed ambitions to become one of Australia’s richest men
“Our goal is to move into that top BRW (Rich 200) group and we plan to do that by heeding the advice laid out in my book (How to beat the Managed Funds by 20%),” he said.
“It’s about taking calculated risks but in a very steady way.”
The addition of fullyaccredited share trading courses to Wealth Within’s core financial management business has helped Dale’s rise in Australia’s corporate ranks.
Rather than making him forget his humble Geelong roots, Dale’s success seemed likely to draw him back to the city and he was sorting through property listings at the high end of the local market.
“I’m getting married this year and we hope to have kids, so Geelong is a fantastic place to do that,” he said.
