Torquay Returned and Services League is honouring Anzac Day with an early morning March and raising money for the welfare needs of veterans.
President Bob Brackin said the RSL would host the Veterans March from Torquay’s Bell Street to the Point Danger Memorials on Tuesday, April 25, for the first time since COVID hit Australia in 2020.
Mr Brackin said the day would include the Dawn Service at 6am after the 5.40am March, vintage aircraft flying over Point Danger at 6.40am, and an all-day celebration at the Torquay Bowls Club from 7am.
“The service is available for the community to show their respect and remembrance of the service people that sacrificed for Australia,” he said.
Mr Brackin said it was important to recognise the people who had fought for Australia and encouraged the community to pay their respects.
“The community is fantastic around Torquay and they’re really supportive,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to having a having a great day of remembering, getting all together and having the camaraderie that we enjoy.”
Mr Brackin said the Torquay RSL has also been selling Anzac Day badges to raise money for the club’s veterans and members.
“That raises quite a bit of money, which is very important for our veteran services,” he said.
“Some of our veterans are pensioners, so we try to help them out where possible, and it’s so important that we provide those veteran services to everybody that needs them.
“It’s a sad time as well as a time of remembering and the good part about it is the community support that comes out for Anzac Day.”
