Plans to fluoridate the region’s water supply have enraged antifluoride campaigners.
Water Quality Australia Geelong spokesperson David McRae demanded a referendum before State Government went ahead with its plan to supply the region with fluoridated water from Melbourne.
Mr McRae said the Government knew Geelong opposed fluoridation.
“Local MPs have all made representation to government that Geelong people do not want fluoride and Geelong people are well informed on the pros and cons of consuming fluoridated water,” he said.
“The pipeline must not be built without a referendum or ceasing all fluoridation.”
