Trainer confident locals have plenty of punch

A Torquay boxing trainer is confident his charges will deal some devastating blows at a Geelong tournament tomorrow night.
Ashley Lynch said three boxers training at his Torquay gym would take on opponents from throughout Australia at the pro-am event.
Clinton McLeod, Ben Douglas and Nigel ‘The Nightmare’ Robinson had never been in better shape, Lynch said.
“I’ve never felt so good about my boxers and I’m expecting three wins this time,” he said.
“We’ve done a lot of research into the opposition and we feel we’ve got the upper hand.”
McLeod will be aiming for a repeat of his debut bout at Warrnambool three weeks ago where he floored his victim in 20 seconds.
“He’s a very hard man, Clint,” Lynch said.
The “cagey all-rounder” had already impressed boxing crowds with his long reach and ability to land punches from all angles.
Robinson was also set to deliver some nightmare blows, Lynch said.
“I’ve sparred with him myself and the punches hurt,” he said.
“He’s very sharp, has a long reach, a big heart and he hits with pinpoint accuracy.”
The three had added plenty of garlic to their diets this week to sharpen their competitive edge.
“When they’re super fit they’re stripped down to bare wood, so they get sick very easily and that’s why they eat garlic in the last week,” Lynch said.
“Last week all three fell sick and that’s good because they’ll recuperate at just the right time and be bursting with energy when the bell rings.”
Lynch said locals had already snapped up plenty of the 800 tickets on sale for tomorrow’s event at Moolap’s Club Italia.
