Four Cats in All Australian squad

Four Geelong players have made the provisional AFLW All Australian squad.

The All-Australian selection panel confirmed the squad of 42 players that is in contention for selection for the 2022 Season Seven AFLW All Australian Team.

A final team of 21 players including a captain and vice-captain will be announced at the W Awards, held on Tuesday 22 November.

Minor premiers the Brisbane Lions had the most players selected in the squad, with six nominations, while reigning premiers the Adelaide Crows, Melbourne, the Geelong Cats and Richmond had four players nominated.

Amy McDonald, Meghan McDonald, Georgie Prespakis and Chloe Scheer were named in the squad from the Cats.

It is Amy McDonald’s first nomination and she won her way into the squad with a powerhouse season that saw her average 25 disposals, 15.4 contested possessions, 7.4 tackles, 3.9 score involvements, 2.9 inside 50s, and 7.1 clearances per game.

Meg McDonald is a 2019 and 2021 All Australian and her season has seen her average 3.6 marks, two intercept marks, 7.5 intercept possessions, 2.1 spoils, 2.2 rebound 50s, and 1.6 tackles per game.

Prespakis has never been nominated for selection before this year.

She has averaged 22.8 disposals, 75.3 per cent disposal efficiency, 11.8 contested possessions, 7.8 tackles, 3.2 score involvements, 3.5 inside 50s, six clearances, and 356 metres gained per game this season.

It is Scheer’s first nomination for the award. She booted 17 goals this season and averaged 2.9 marks, 1.7 contested marks, two tackles, 4.4 score involvements, 3.1 ground ball gets, and 8.4 disposals per game.
