Emissary wins Cup

Emissary has won the 2022 Geelong Cup in front of a bumper crowd today.

Ssired by the stallion Kingman out of the dam Soviet Moon, the five-year-old gelding won at the odds of $17 from favourite Surefire and Akram coming in third.

The winner of the Geelong Cup, a Group 3 event ,is not automatically guaranteed a spot in the Melbourne Cup, but usually can get a weight penalty that sees it move up the Order of Entry for a start.

Last year, Tralee Rose won the Geelong Cup and finished 9th at Flemington 13 days later.

Three years ago, Prince of Arran won the Geelong Cup and went on to run 2nd in the Melbourne Cup.
