Mistake leads to $1 million win

A Geelong man has discovered a mistake that led him to a life changing $1 million win after accidentally marking his Monday and Wednesday Lotto ticket with different numbers than usual.

The man held the only division one winning entry in Monday and Wednesday Lotto draw 4216, drawn Monday 12 September. The division one winning entry scored $1 million.

After a few missed calls, the winning man finally answered the phone to an official from The Lott who’d been continuously attempting to deliver the good news.

“I haven’t even checked my ticket. I usually religiously check my tickets straight after the draw, but for some reason, I didn’t this time,” he explained.

“I’m looking at my ticket now, and I’ve realised I’ve even marked the numbers wrong too.

“They’re special numbers, and I use them every time, but one of the numbers on this ticket is entirely wrong.

“That means if I hadn’t made that mistake, I would never have won!

“It’s bloody fantastic. It’s awesome! One million dollars – what the hell!

“I had just finished cooking lunch and sat down to eat when you called. Well, my appetite is well and truly gone now. I can’t believe it. This is so weird.

“My wife doesn’t like me buying lottery tickets. But she’s just walked in the door, and I’ve shown her the win on my phone, and now she’s bawling her eyes out.

“This prize is terrific because it’ll mean we can stress less and enjoy more time with our family.

“We’ll also plan a big holiday for our family as a surprise. We’ll go to Europe or America, I think.”

His life changing marked entry was purchased online at thelott.com – the official home of Australia’s lotteries.

The winning numbers in Monday & Wednesday Lotto draw 4216 on Monday 12 September 2022 were 5, 39, 7, 30, 32 and 25, while the supplementary numbers were 28 and 27.
