Year 9 student Bianca Bignoux is having a very special Book Week this year as she celebrates the launch of her first picture story book, Neddy’s Box of Noodles.
The Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College (MFG) student and Leopold resident was inspired to write the book by her younger cousin, who she says is still “crazy about noodles”.
“It’s been really good, I’ve always loved writing and drawing but I never thought I’d be a published author,” Bianca said.
“My cousin Neddy just loves noodles, he’s kind of obsessed with them, and he’s got the same kind of imagination as me, so I decided to write about him.
“That’s what this story is really all about, using your imagination.”
Bianca’s mum Nicole explained that her daughter, like many young people, has struggled to stay engaged with school-based learning over recent years and also manages other ongoing challenges, including Asperger’s Syndrome and an anxiety disorder.
Despite all this, Bianca is now thriving at MFG, while also working on a memoir about her grandfather, writing a young adult novel and planning two more children’s picture books.
Neddy’s Box of Noodles has been released by Jaymah, a small, independent press whose aim is to support indie writers and returns all profits from book sales to the author.
Copies of Bianca’s book can be purchased from jaymahpress.com.au or by calling 0468 878 714.
