The Barwon River has fished very well this past week with silver trevally, salmon and estuary perch all on the chew throughout the system.
The small creek in front of Barwon Heads boat ramp has definitely been the hotspot of late with anglers finding plenty of fish holding throughout that area.
Casting small soft plastics like Z-Man GrubZ and Berkley 3 inch minnows have been having great success. Eco-gear vibes have also been working very well in the dirty water as it lets out a good vibration and the fish just can’t help themselves.
A great option if you’re fishing out of a kayak or a small tinny or if you are just trying to escape the rough weather.
Clifton Springs to Hermsley has been a current hotspot with King George whiting and calamari still chewing very well throughout the area.
Fishing with pipis on the tide change with a little bit of pellet burley in the water has been working a treat with fish to 40cm being landed and bag limit captures on offer.
The calamari have been holding in shallow water towards the shoreline just over the broken ground and weed beds. Major Craft Egi jigs have been the current standout with purple colours proving the best.
Offshore Barwon Heads has been fishing exceptionally well for snapper and gummy shark, with some good weather starting to roll in, allowing boats to get out and chase the winter fish out the front.
The 30 metre line has been very productive area to start fishing, Gummy sharks to 15kg have been caught and snapper to 3kg have also been about.
Gone Fishing charters has been amongst the action lately putting their clients onto some fantastic gummy sharks throughout the winter months.
School bluefin tuna have also been holding in good numbers at the front. The 50 to 60 metre mark is producing the most fish and there’s still plenty of signs of the bigger ones, too.
The crater lakes down the west coast have continued to produce some quality fishing at the moment with chinook salmon, brown, rainbow and tiger trout all on the chew.
Trolling Tassie Devils and Daiwa double clutches have been the standout methods.
Fishing with bait has also been producing plenty of fish if chasing the chinook salmon. Best to run with a heavy burley trail of pilchard cubes and pellets.
