Geelong online TV set for rebirth “soon”

Hamish Heard
GEELONG’S first television channel is set for reincarnation after an earlier attempt to get the station off the ground ended in failure.
Adam Tribe, managing director of the Geelong based film and television production company The Tribe, has announced plans to resurrect GOTV after the company behind the station, Now What Media Group, went into administration in January.
Mr Tribe, a former partner in Now What Media Group, aimed get the internet TV station back on line soon.
“Having recently acquired full ownership of GOTV, we will announce plans to bring it back into operation soon,” Mr Tribe said.
He believed that market interest had proved the concept was viable despite GOTV lasting six months before going into administration following its first launch.
“The market confirmed what we have known all along: GOTV is not some pieinthesky idea,” he said.
Mr Tribe said his Moorabool Street production company had produced television shows that had been sold to more than 150 countries.
He recently returned from Cannes, France, where he attended an industry event for companies producing, buying, selling, financing or distributing entertainment content.
He said The Tribe had generated plenty of praise from industry figures at the event.
“It’s inspiring to know that we, a small production company from Geelong, are making world class products in demand by international distribution platforms,” he said.
“The trip was a resounding success, with the company’s next 12 months of production assured.”
Mr Tribe said the trip also gave him a chance to meet with others involved in internet television broadcasting.
“Ondemand viewing is already happening all over the world Europe has been using that technology for years,” Mr Tribe said.
“Australia will catch up and we’re leading the way from right here in Geelong, so it’s really satisfying to have those ideas supported by people who have already seen it succeeding.”
