Abel McArthur scored the first goal with a giant soccer ball when he joined people from across Geelong for a free inclusive sports day on Monday.
“He was really happy he scored the first goal,” said dad Aaron McArthur.
“He had a great time out there and enjoyed all the different sports. It’s friendly environment where he can have a go.”
The eight-year-old from Lovely Banks uses a walking frame and a wheelchair due to being born without part of the bottom of his spine.
But that did not stop him from trying modified versions of tennis, archery and his favourite, badminton.
The sport day was the brainchild of Solve Disability Solutions’ Tim Marchinton, who was on hand with staff and volunteers to support the participants.
“They can try archery, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair badminton, dance and roll, and we even have Freedom Wheels customised bikes and trikes, so people can try them out as well,” Tim said.
