House blossoms at autumn open day

Jane Emerick
While leaves fall outside, Torquay’s Spring Creek Community House is jumping with ideas to improve the mind, body and spirit.
Coordinator Laura Connor said the centre’s annual open day on Sunday drew its biggest attendance of people wanting to know how to get involved.
“We have so many different programs and groups here – there’s definitely something for everyone,” Ms Connor said.
Selfhelp groups at the community house dealt with issues from substance abuse to weight loss, while yoga sessions, art classes, play groups and language classes were also available.
Ms Connor said special oneday programs were another feature, such as Bollywood dance lessons in June, she said.
“This type of dancing is all the rage and I think it will be really fun,” she said.
New residents were taking advantage of the community house’s coffee and chat group at 10am Wednesdays to find out more about their new community.
Spring Creek Community House is at 14 Price Street, Torquay.
