Read the Play Round will return to AFL Barwon for its 15th year this weekend in a bid to promote good mental health.
The annual under 15s round will feature more than 80 clubs across AFL Barwon leagues and the Western Region Football League playing with white footballs and blue netballs.
“The [round] is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of looking after mental health to teenagers across the region,” Read the Play general manager Michael Parker said.
According to Read the Play, one in four young people experience mental illness any given year, with a third of those not seeking professional help.
The Read the Play round aims to highlight the importance of looking after mental health, increase help-seeking behaviours and promote support services.
“We know the vital role sporting clubs play in the lives of young footballers and netballers, and are thrilled with the willingness of clubs and leagues to introduce the Read the Play program for their players,” Mr Parker said.
