Hundreds of locals queueing for the COVID-19 vaccine face wait times of up to 90 minutes, prompting renewed calls to book ahead.

Barwon Health today confirmed that wait times for walk-in vaccinations at the old Ford factory hub were reaching 90 minutes during the busiest parts of the day.

The queue stretched more than 100 metres across the car park and out the front entry of the mass vaccination hub this morning as state government announced a new immunisation blitz for private aged care and disability workers.

The blitz, beginning tomorrow and running until Sunday, will give priority to these workers for walk-in appointments.

Last week Barwon Health encouraged locals to book ahead due to high demand and limited walk-in availability after state government opened vaccination to over 40s.

“Booking a vaccination on the Barwon Health website is the best way to secure an appointment time and avoid disappointment,” Barwon Health spokesperson Kate Bibby said last week.

Ms Bibby this week again encouraged locals to book at barwonhealth.org.au/coronavirus/booking-a-vaccination or by phoning 1800 675 398.

“We ask that people continue to get tested with any COVID-19 symptoms, be patient when booking a vaccination, stay informed, and follow the Department of Health’s restrictions to help protect the community,” she said.
