The hunt is on for the artists behind two mysterious paintings at Geelong Arts Centre ahead of a major redevelopment of the site.
Local actor and historian Colin Mockett put on his detective hat to help track down the artists, whose paintings have adorned the centre walls for years.
“They don’t know where they’ve come from,” he said.
“They could be a donation from someone that was just looking to add some colour to the concrete walls.
“But equally, they could be a painting by a set designer to brighten up a play.”
The mystery emerged as Geelong Arts Centre staff packed up the Little Malop Street building in preparation for a $128 million redevelopment next year.
The staff are channelling their inner detectives too in search of the mystery painters.
“Every piece of art tells a story,” the centre’s Tina Rettke said.
“If the walls could talk, oh the stories they would tell.”
