A woman claimed she drove from Geelong to Melbourne for a kebab when police caught her breaching COVID-19 restrictions in Werribee on Monday night.
Officers intercepted the woman after curfew in Greaves Street, Werribee, Victoria Police spokesperson Amelia Penhall.
“When questioned by police she told them she had driven from Geelong to Melbourne to buy a kebab and was then driving back to Werribee to visit her boyfriend,” Ms Penhall said.
The woman was one of 171 people who police fined on Monday for breaching COVID-19 directions.
Police fined 31 people for failing to wear a face covering, 21 people at vehicle checkpoints and 67 people for breaching curfew in metropolitan Melbourne.
Officers checked 21,482 vehicles at checkpoints and conducted 3704 spot checks on people at homes, businesses and public places across Victoria on Monday.
Police have conducted 396,289 spot checks since March 21.
Meanwhile, police stopped a man on his way to drink with a friend at the Little River checkpoint after curfew on Sunday.
The man told officers he was on his way to pick up a mate so they could go back to his house and drink, police said.
