The number of active COVID-19 cases diagnosed in Greater Geelong residents has more than tripled within a week.
The municipality today recorded 120 active COVID-19 cases, compared to just 35 active cases last Tuesday (July 28).
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, there are also 87 active cases of the virus in Colac Otway (compared to 54 active cases a week ago).
As of today, 78 cases have been linked to the Australian Lamb Company in Colac.
Twenty-five cases have been linked to Golden Farms Poultry in Breakwater.
A single case has been detected in a staff member at the Opal South Valley aged care facility in Geelong.
Victoria has recorded 439 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of active cases now at 6706.
The overall total has increased by 398, due to 41 cases being reclassified – largely due to duplication.
Within Victoria, 63 of the new cases are linked to known outbreaks or complex cases and 376 are under investigation.
There have been 11 new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. They include a man in his 70s, one man and three females in their 80s, two males and three females in their 90s and one woman in her 100s.
All of the 11 new deaths are linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities. To date, 147 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.
A total of 456 Victorians are in hospital with the virus, including 38 people in intensive care. 5283 people have recovered from the virus.
Across the state, there are 1186 active cases related to aged care facilities, while 731 health workers have also been diagnosed with an active case.
