Police have arrested an Armstrong Creek man over a hit-run crash that killed a 60-year-old cyclist in Beaumaris on Sunday.

A Holden Commodore struck a cyclist on Beach Road about 5.25pm and the driver failed to stop and help her, police alleged.

The cyclist, a 60-year-old Mentone woman, died at the scene.

Police located the car in Waller Court, Cheltenham, soon after and later Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives arrested a 35-year-old man.

The Armstrong Creek man was in custody assisting investigators with their enquiries, police said.

Two women who were in the car at the time of the collision were also assisting investigators with their enquiries, police said.

Police urged anyone who witnessed the collision or who might have dashcam footage to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
