Geelong lit

Lights at the corner of Malop and Moorabool streets in central Geelong are set to mark several dates this month.

The lights will glow teal tomorrow night for World Ovarian Cancer Day, pink for Mother’s Day on May 10 and rainbow colours for IDAHoBIT day on May 17.

They will also turn orange to acknowledge SES volunteers on May 20 and red for 65 Roses Day on May 22, for cystic fibrosis awareness, council has announced.

Forty-six charges

Police have charged Geelong man Benjamin Schembri, 33, with 46 offences, including aggravated burglary, burglary, theft, assault, assaulting an emergency services worker and other offences.

Police arrested him in a unit at St Leonards Parade, St Leonards, about 4.50pm on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody on Wednesday for his next court appearance on May 27.

‘Cleaner’ future

Deakin’s Institute for Frontier Materials researchers, in collaboration with other universities, have discovered that super-concentrated ionic liquids are key to achieving better batteries.

The finding could improve batteries for use in transportation and clean energy for homes, according to study leader Professor Maria Forsyth.
