Defence welcome

A South Korean company proposing to build a new elite defence production facility in Geelong has met with council this week.

The manufacturing base will deliver self-propelled howitzers and supporting systems to complement the Australian Army’s existing towed artillery capability, according to Hanwha Defense.

Student cleared

A former Deakin University student convicted of sexually assaulting two library workers has won an appeal to drop the charges against him this week.

Syed Qureshi, 21, cleared his name at the Geelong County Court on Wednesday regarding the alleged incidents at the university’s Waurn Ponds campus in 2017.
