Man wins $4.8m for caravan trip

AUSSIE ADVENTURE: A Geelong man plans to hit the road after winning $4.8 million.

A Geelong man has won $20,000 a month for 20 years – equal to $4.8 million – in a national draw on Friday.

The man refused to believe he had won until a lotto official phoned on Monday morning to confirm the result.

“I found out on the weekend,” he told the official.

“I was shocked! I almost had a heart attack! I thought it must be a mistake. I have been waiting for your phone call. I didn’t want to get too excited.”

The man checked his lotto account “over and over again” on the weekend, he said.

“These kinds of things just don’t happen to people like me. I’m so glad it’s real! This is crazy! I’m so excited.”

But despite his reservations about the win, he admitted he had some whisky with mates over the weekend to celebrate.

“We will certainly be having some more now it’s been confirmed,” he said.

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, had his eyes set on travelling Australia.

“I’m going to renovate my caravan – there are a few things I’ve been wanting to do on it,” he explained.

“Then I will plan a few trips around Australia. It certainly will help my retirement as well.”

The Geelong man won the first prize of $20,000 a month for 20 years in last Friday’s Set for Life draw.

He purchased his winning entry online, according to Tattslotto.

To win first prize in Set for Life, players must correctly match all eight winning numbers drawn from 1 to 37 in a single set.

The odds of winning first prize in a single set are one in 38,608,020, according to statistics website lottonumbers.com.
