Truck-car crash kills unidentified motorist

A driver has died after their car and a truck crashed on Bacchus Marsh Rd at Lara about 11am on Tuesday.

The car and truck collided in the vicinity of Heales Rd and both vehicles caught fire at about 11.05am, police said.

The blaze sent smoke pluming into the air before firefighters extinguished it.

Investigators had yet to identify the driver who died at the scene, police said at midday on Tuesday.

Paramedics treated the truck driver for minor injuries before taking them to University Hospital Geelong.

Police blocked Bacchus Marsh Rd in both directions between Heales Rd and Minyip Rd and urged drivers to avoid the area.

Geelong Highway Patrol officers were investigating the collision, police said.
