Blaze survivor

A woman in her 20s is recovering at The Alfred Hospital after suffering burns in a Grovedale house fire on Tuesday.

Police believed that a candle could have started the fire, which left the woman in a critical but stable condition.

Toddler injured

A toddler is recovering in hospital after a multi-car crash near the intersection of Moorabool and Malop Sts, Geelong, on Wednesday.

An ambulance took the boy to University Hospital Geelong with back injuries as well as a woman in her 20s for assessment.

Bomber bailed

A man is on bail following a bomb scare during a raid at his home in Mark St, Lara, last Friday.

Joshua Norton, 26, appeared in Geelong Magistrates Court after police charged him with possessing an explosive device and drugs and firearm offences.

Blues benevolence

Almost 800 donors have raised more than $70,000 for prominent Clifton Springs blues singer and songwriter Chris Wilson as he battles pancreatic cancer.

Tools targeted

Thieves are swiping a “significant numbers” of tools form work sites, sheds and vehicles across the Geelong region, police have warned.

Investigators recorded 44 thefts involving 91 tools including chainsaws, drills, angle grinders and circular saws from 1 June to 16 July, police revealed this week.

Refinery flying

Viva Energy will today rebrand its aviation fuel business to help ensure the long-term viability of Corio’s oil refinery and its 700 workers.

Viva bought the business for US $250 million from Shell in 2016 but until recently sold fuel under the Shell brand.

Storages rising

The region’s water storages have continued rising after another week of rain in catchment areas, according to official measurements.

Barwon Water recorded the storages at 53.7 per cent of capacity on Wednesday, up more than 1.1 billion litres after 32mm of rain over the previous seven days.

Lyons litigation

Former Geelong mayor Darryn Lyons is suing multicultural services provider Diversitat for defamation over a radio presenter’s comments on its community radio station.

Mr Lyons has filed a writ with Supreme Court claiming money to cover damages and costs from The Pulse’s owner over the allegedly defamatory comments of Greg McHenry.
