Four men armed with hammers smashed their way into a service station and threatened an employee in an early-morning holdup at Lara on Tuesday.
Police were investigating the armed robbery after receiving a call-out to the Mill Road service station just before 1.40am.
Four men used hammers to smash their way into the store while a fifth offender remained in a silver Mercedes with stolen number plates, investigators said.
The men made threats to an employee before stealing cash and cigarettes, investigators alleged.
They then got into the waiting car before the fifth offender drove them from the service station, investigators said.
No one sustained injuries in the holdup.
Police urged anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
