STUDENT queues at Centrelink will reduce after this week’s national launch of a smart phone app at Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds campus.
The Express Plus Students app is designed to make life easier for 400,000 students receiving Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY.
Senator Kim Carr said the app, initially for iPhone and iPod touch, gave students flexibility to manage their Centrelink obligations.
“It is simple, user-friendly and will save people time,” Sen Carr said.
“Students can complete the most common reporting requirements quickly and easily from any location without having to call or visit an office.
“They can report employment income, update course details and check their account history.
“Centrelink is currently facing a period of very high demand, resulting in longer waiting times. This is one step towards reducing demand on the network.” Member for Corangamite Darren Cheeseman said students had already welcomed the new app.
“I talk to a lot of students who attend uni here in Geelong and many say it’s much more suited to how they prefer to interact with a large organisation.”
Students can download the Express Plus Students app now.
