ROCKABILLY singer Lanie Lane will play a “raw” solo set when she visits Geelong this September.
“I’m playing solo this time instead of with the band, so I’m going to strip everything back,” she told the Independent.
“I’m going to show people the songs as they were written – just me and my guitar.”
With a horse tattooed on her arm and a debut album titled To The Horses, Lane has a clear connection with the “gorgeous creatures”.
The album title was a nod to what she perceived as their spirituality and independence.
“Horses just have their own take on the world,” Lane contended.
“They’re free and beautiful. They’re just beautiful to relate to.”
Lane considered the touring life as her “version of normal” despite often being away from loved ones.
“You get used to being quite separated from friends and family but I find it difficult if I’m away from my boyfriend for more than a week.
“I’m lucky to have a very supportive family”.
Lane reminisced about her father and brother introducing her to playing music.
“I remember picking up a guitar at 11 or 12 and having a go at the chords.
“It was quite hard on my fingers and it hurt but I persevered because I got so much joy from it.”
Lane estimated she had spent “most of (her) life” writing songs, with lyrics flowing through her mind day and night.
“I once said ‘That’s what you get for falling in love with a cowboy’ in my sleep. I have no idea what I was dreaming about but it’s now one of my song titles.”
Lane will visit Geelong on her On My Own Track Tour at Beav’s Bar on September 20.
