News Ltd: Advertisermanager’s redundant

By John Van Klaveren
RETRENCHMENTS have begun at the Geelong Advertiser, starting with general manager Wayne Buttner.
News Limited announced on Monday that it had made Mr Buttner redundant.
The announcement appeared in the media section of the company’s flagship national daily The Australian.
Mr Buttner had been general manager at the Advertiser since January 2011.
He was previously general manager at News Limited’s Community Newspaper Group in Perth for almost six years.
The Independent reported last week that sweeping changes to News Limited’s operations had left Geelong staff facing relocation to Melbourne.
The company announced a “one-city-one-newsroom” strategy across its metropolitan, regional and community operations.
Advertiser editor Nick Papps said in an editorial on Saturday the paper would continue reporting local stories with staff “who live and work here”.
