Belmont’s Lexie Butcher just beat the clock to become a Talkin’ Turkey winner, entering with a mere 20 seconds left.
“That’s worth a million dollars,” the thrilled grandmother said when the Indy called on Tuesday.
“It’s not Christmas without a turkey is it?”
The cheeky turkeys eluded Lexi until the last seconds of the competition’s deadline.
“We looked everywhere!” she said.
“The last two were really hard.”
Lexie lives with daughter Rochelle Craig and grandson Ronan, who doubles as her “receptionist”.
The “marauding” four-year-old was slightly confused when he heard the Indy’s cutting-edge turkey sound effects before passing the phone to his mum.
Rochelle pitched in at the last minute to help her mum find the elusive final two turkeys.
“I’m pretty sure it would have been 5.59pm and 40 seconds,“ she said. “It would have been right down to the wire.”
The family couldn’t wait to gobble up their delicious turkey and Rochelle said her boy would be the main beneficiary.
“Christmas is very expensive so that’s one less thing we have to buy,” she said.
“We could get a couple of extra stocking-stuffers for the little one. Ronan’s the centre of our world.”
The competition returns with the five turkeys hidden in separate ads in this week’s edition.
To go into the draw, entrants must supply their name and phone number along with the business names of the five advertisers with a hidden turkey each.
