Jan Juc’s best young surfers will take on the rest of the country in the Australian Junior Surfing Titles this weekend at Culburra, NSW.
Eleven surfers feature in the 23-person Victorian team for the competition, which gets underway on Saturday morning.
Culburra Beach’s variety of waves would make for a memorable week of high-level junior competition, Victorian coach Cahill Bell-Warren said.
Bell-Warren was looking forward to building on the success of last year’s event at Phillip Island.
“The Surfing Victoria Performance Division has been working hard to ensure that our incredible results at 2016 aren’t in isolation, and that we can continue to show our depth and elite talent on the national stage,” he said.
“We have set some really strong training plans and procedures in place over the last 12 months.
“I am really looking forward to get into the trenches next week to give our athletes the best opportunity to achieve both individually and as a team.”
The event features boys and girls under-14, under-16 and under-18 events.
The local stars will be back in action when Australia’s best young surfers journey to Jan Juc next January.
Surfing Australia this week announced the Hydralyte Sports Surf Series would come to Bells Beach for round one on 13 and 14 January.
The WSL sanctioned Pro Junior events formed part of the 2018 WSL Australasian Junior Qualifying Series, Surfing Australia chief executive officer Andrew Stark said.
“The WSL Pro Junior series is a critical pathway to the elite level of the sport on the WSL World Tour and the Olympics,” he said.
“We look forward to crowning champions over the next three years and watching these Aussie junior surfers go onto win at the highest level of the sport.”
