Geelong Harmony is about to play its role in Geelong’s Seniors Festival.
Drysdale’s Potato Shed is the scene for the Sing into Spring concert on Sunday 8 October from 2pm to 4pm.
Acts will feature a cappella harmonies from Geelong Harmony Chorus and Around the Blend and Cadence quartets. Ember trio, consisting of Chelsie Demajo (vocals), Nina Denham (cello) and Mitch Rice (keyboard), will also perform from their repertoire of jazz influenced covers.
“Our annual performance during Seniors Month at the Potato Shed had become a highlight in the Geelong Harmony Chorus calendar,” says Geelong Harmony musical director Alex Morris.
“We love being part of Seniors Week, and we love sharing our music with the Bellarine community.”
Geelong Harmony placed second in the medium choirs’ division of Australia’s Sweet Adelines International competition in Perth this year and Around the Blend have just returned from the Barbershop Harmony Australia national quartet contest with a bronze medal.
“People can expect the trademark Capella harmonies of one of Geelong’s most awarded choirs,” Alex said.
“We have put together a program with music from artists including Duke Ellington, KD Lang and Annie Lennox as well as a number of much- loved Australian melodies – even a couple of singalongs!”
Geelong Harmony is unique in that the performers come from a range of all ages.
“Our youngest member is 21 and oldest in their seventies,” Alex said.
“It’s amazing working with such diverse age groups who come together with a shared love for making music and having fun.”
Ember jazz trio, three young musicians from Bellarine Secondary College, are sharing the stage this year.
“They are incredibly excited not only to be performing with Geelong Harmony Chorus but also as part of the Seniors Month program,” Alex said.
