RACING identity and professional MC Rob Gaylard has a special reason for saddling up each year to support McKellar Centre’s fundraising golf day.
“My wife’s mother was an in-patient at McKellar Centre for many years, so I’ve seen the staff’s work from close range,” Rob said.
“They’re all unsung heroes in my book.”
Rob said he had lost count of how long he had served as the golf day’s volunteer compere.
“I earn my living doing this sort of thing but I’m always happy to offer my services for this event. It’s only a small price to pay considering the huge role McKellar Centre plays in the community.
“What they do for the community is enormous, so it doesn’t take much for us to get a team together and have a fun day to raise some funds and awareness.”
This month’s golf day will help McKellar Centre buy an upper-limb evaluation kit, the first of its kind in Victoria. The centre’s Kerry O’Sullivan said the customised therapy device would help road trauma and stroke survivors regain hand coordination and function.
The golf day will feature an Ambrose competition beginning with a shotgun start 8am on March 30 at 13th Beach golf course. Players will compete over 18 holes before a luncheon and charity auction in the clubhouse.
